Check canal water theft: Punjab minister Rana Gurjit to officials

Punjab irrigation and power minister Rana Gurjit Singh on Tuesday directed the irrigation department to check theft of canal water besides ensuring water supply to the tail ends.

Punjab irrigation and power minister Rana Gurjit Singh on Tuesday directed the irrigation department to check theft of canal water besides ensuring water supply to the tail ends.

The minister also warned of strict action against those involved in canal water theft. “I have received reports regarding canal water theft by some unscrupulous elements with the connivance of some officials of the department. I want to make it clear that I will make surprise visits to check the ground reality and no one will be spared, if found guilty,” he said during a meeting with senior officials of the irrigation department.

The minister also stressed on identify and make public the list of encroached properties on the department’s website.
