Two policemen and some locals allegedly thrashed a mentally disturbed man with their batons in full public view after he punched them and tossed their turbans in the air near Shri Durga Mata Mandir on Saturday morning.

The cops chased the man to Government College for Girls and thrashed him till he fell unconscious. Sensing his condition, police called an ambulance and sent it to the civil hospital. The man’s condition was reported to be stable. He was identified as 25-year-old Bobby Sharma.

According to Bobby’s relatives, he suffered multiple injuries on the back and head. They added that Bobby underwent brain surgery after he met with a road accident in September 2016.

The family, however, has not lodged any complaint against the cops. Bablu Sharma, Bobby’s brother, said their financial condition was unstable. They did not want to get into any trouble.

Eyewitnesses said Bobby came to the temple daily. On Saturday, he went to the roundabout near Shri Durga Mata Mandir and started enacting traffic cops, which created confusion among the commuters.

When the cops, assistant sub-inspectors Jatinder Singh and Balbir Singh, stopped him, he attacked them and tossed their turbans in the air. He attacked some other people present there and fled towards Bharat Nagar Chowk.

The cops and locals chased him down and nabbed him near the main gate of Government College of Girls and thrashed him with their batons in full public view.

Bablu said he received a phone call from one of the commuters that police were thrashing his brother. When he reached the spot, police had already sent his brother to hospital. He added that the cops thrashed his brother brutally.

Division 5 station house officer Vinod Kumar said the family did not lodge any complaint. Police will take appropriate action according to the complaint.

Victim wanted to act in Bollywood

Bablu said Bobby was a good dancer and actor. He has performed in many videos. On September 27, he met with an accident following which he underwent a major brain surgery at Christian Medical College and Hospital. The doctors told Bobby that he required another brain surgery. Otherwise, it could lead to complications. Bobby is unmarried and manufactures bags for blankets.
