Harjit Sajjan inaugurates new Canadian consulate office in Chandigarh

Canadian defence minister Harjit Singh Sajjan opened the new Consulate General of Canada in Chandigarh on Friday morning.

The new office is situated in the Elante office complex, which also houses the British Council. Earlier, the consulate office was in Sector 17.

Officers briefed Sajjan, who is the first Punjab-born Sikh to hold the top defence job in a foreign land, regarding the various services that will be offered at the consulate. These include assistance to Canadians, visa services, service to help companies do business in Canada and it provides services to Canadian companies
It will also provide assistance to Canadian citizens travelling to, or who are residents of, India or Bhutan. Further, it will help people by guiding them about travelling to Canada and how to apply for a visa.
Sajjan will meet Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar later in the day before he flies to Mumbai.
