Local MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal has once again accused the Congress-led UPA government of betraying the people of Punjab on all fronts.Accusing Congress MPs from Punjab of opposing the grants being given by the Centre for the state, she exhorted them to rise above petty politics.

Harsimrat alleged that the Congress MPs had never been heard in Parliament taking up the issues of Punjab. She was addressing a sangat darshan programme in the district on Friday.

She said the recent hike in petrol and diesel prices had once again proved the failure of the central government as it had failed to check the skyrocketing prices of daily commodities. It was for the 33rd time in a year that the prices of petrol and diesel were hiked, she said.

She said the Punjab government had decided to widen the ambit of the atta-dal scheme by doubling the number of beneficiaries from 15 lakh to 30 lakh. The state government would provide atta-dal to the beneficiaries at much cheaper rates than the existing Rs 4 and Rs 20 per kilogram of atta and dal, respectively, she added.

She said the sole aim of extending the scheme was to ensure that not even a single person starved in the state. She urged the youth to join hands with the state government in bringing green revolution in Punjab so that the environment could be kept clean.
