Dal Khalsa on Saturday accused the SGPC executive for its “selective” approach in removing Giani Gurmukh Singh as jathedar of Takht Sri damdama Sahib.
In a statement, Dal Khalsa president Harpal Singh Cheema said the SGPC had also acted “arbitrarily” in appointing the new jathedar from the priestly class.
Cheema said at present two sets of parallel jathedars were working — one appointed by the SGPC and another by the Sikh congregation ‘Sarbat Khalsa’ — and they both were working at cross purposes.
“For us, these posts are vacant and till the SGPC in consultation with Khalsa Panth appoints Jathedars on merit as per the set procedure, we would stick to our principled position,” he said.
Cheema said the SGPC executive hesitated to admit that the basis for the removal of Giani Gurmukh Singh was his disclosure that Badal family engineered the move to pardon Dera Sacha Sauda. “What Gurmukh Singh has said today was known to the ordinary Sikh from day one,” he added.
