Ludhiana: No respite from heat in near future

The forecast also expects cloudy days with possibility of rain or thundershowers on May 24 and 25.

Throughout the week, the temperature will be above 40 degree Celsius and on May 28, it is likely to touch 45 degree mark. The forecast also expects cloudy days with possibility of rain or thundershowers on May 24 and 25.
"As per the forecast, it may rain but it will be light showers. However, temperature is not expected to fall below 40 degree despite rainfall. Denizens can feel hot winds blowing normally on these days,"said an official from the centre.
"With just a few days left for the arrival of June, days have started becoming hotter. For the last few days, it has become arduous to step out as temperature is too high,"opine most of the city residents.
Dr Anureet Kaur Gill from the city's Apollo Hospital said, "Heat strokes are common these days. So, it is essential to drink a lot of water. Intake of lemon water with salt will be a good drink. Fruits must be eaten as much as possible and one should ensure that fresh food is cooked. Avoid eating and drinking from outside."
Meanwhile, from March 1 till May 13, Ludhiana witnessed a rainfall of 127 mm in total which was enough to make the farmers' cup of woes brim over, wheat was in its final stage of maturing, a stage where rainfall damages the crop. Later, the rainfall also played havoc in the mandis as 80% of the wheat was lying in the open at various mandis of the district. Agricultural experts have said that the rainfall has harmed the crop so much that the grains mostly may not be fit for human consumption.
