MC seals 14 illegal shops in Harbans Nagar

A team of municipal corporation on Wednesday has sealed 14 shops situated on the Harbans Nagar road in the Shastri Nagar in ward number 44. The shops were constructed violating the building laws.

Joint commissioner Anupem Kler passed order in this regard on Tuesday and the team led by assistant town planner Sham Sunder sealed the shops at 7am.

"We have given notices to the owners and this morning we sealed the shops and put notice outside the stores. These shops were constructed illegally violating the mandatory norms," Sham Sunder said.

The MC acted on the complaint filed by local Congress councillor Gurvinder Kaur in 2012. Kaur later moved the complaint to the director local bodies department alleging MC inaction.

"Illegal shops are mushrooming in my area. A few yards away, five more such shops have been constructed by the supporters of BJP leaders and we will seek information about these shops by filing the RTI. We will also move to higher authorities seeking action against the shopowners and building inspector of this area," Kaur alleged.
