The district police is still clueless about the whereabouts of the gangsters who had allegedly killed three members of a rival gang on the Kahnuwan Road at Aujala by-pass in Gurdaspur on Thursday.
When contacted, Gurdaspur senior superintendent of police (SSP) Bhupinderjeet Singh Virk said here on Friday that several police parties had been pressed into service to raid the possible hideouts of the accused.
A five-member gang led by Vicky Gounder, who is said to be the mastermind of the Nabha jail break in November last year, had gunned down three rival gangsters namely Harpreet Singh alias Subedar of Mustafabad Jattan village, Sukhchain Singh alias Jatt of Gurdaspur and Sahib Singh of Pull Tibri while the other two members identified as Inderbir Singh of Nawan Pind Jhawar and Daman Mahajan of Gurdaspur had managed to escape the attack by running out of the Nissan car No PB 06 Y 7800 in which they were travelling from Gurdaspur to Sri Hargobindpur side.
The assault seemed planned so well that the victims got no time to react. The assailants had come from the opposite side and they stopped their car just before the victims’ car and struck like a lightning at their enemies and fled the spot in no time.
Vicky Gounder was accompanied by Sukhpal Singh of Bhikhariwal, Gyana of Kharal village, Happy Chadha of Majithia and one Gopi.
The district police didn’t expect the presence of hard core criminal Vicky Gounder in the area who made his presence felt in Gurdaspur by making the big strike.
A senior police officer confided that it was quite unexpected for the district police that Vicky Gounder had his network in this region too. Highly-placed sources said that Gounder was sighted by the police near Mansa in December last year after the incident of Nabha jail break.
Meanwhile, the district police claimed to have launched a manhunt in the area to trace Gounder and his accomplices.
