Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh said on Wednesday that English should be taught at the primary level along with Punjabi as the main language in government schools to help their students compete with those studying in private schools.
Expressing concern over the poor standard of school education, in a meeting with top officials, Captain Singh said out-of-box steps would be initiated to enable students passing out from government schools to compete with their peers educated in private or convent schools.
He said students from Class 10 onwards should be given the option to learn a foreign language too, according to a spokesperson.
