The vigilance department has arrested a sales tax inspector while accepting a bribe at the inter-state border in Sardulgarh on Tuesday.

The accused, identified as Bhupinder Singh, has been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

According to DSP Manjit Singh, complainant Diwan Chand, a trader from Sardulgarh, was being harassed by the accused for allowing his truck, which used to import iron items from Ludhiana, without any inspection.

“The complainant used to import iron items from a firm in Ludhiana and used to enter via the Sardulewala inter-state barrier in Sardulgarh. The accused Bhupinder Singh was posted near this border and had offered for a smooth passage of the truck without any inspection of bill (receipts). On Tuesday, the complainant agreed to pay Rs 3,000 for entry of the truck. We nabbed Bhupinder Singh while accepting Rs 6,000 to allow two trucks,” said DSP Manjit Singh.
