Rain brings respite from heat in Chandigarh, storm uproots trees

A storm in the wee hours of Wednesday disrupted power supply in most sectors of Chandigarh, including Industrial Area Phase 1, Sectors 26, 27 and 28.

Chandigarh and its adjoining areas woke up to a pleasant Wednesday morning followed by a welcome spell of light rain.

The city got 3.6mm of rainfall till 8.30am, the Indian Meteorological Department said, adding that the day will remain cloudy and windy.

Met department director Surender Paul said rain is forecast on Thursday morning too though the day temperature is likely to remain normal.

After Thursday, the sky will be clear for five days till the next cycle of weather disturbance hits Chandigarh around June 5.

Trees were uprooted in Chandigarh and SAS Nagar though there was no casualty reported. A tree fell in Sector 23, Chandigarh, while another was uprooted near the traffic signal on the road dividing Phases 7 and 8 in SAS Nagar besides one at Phase 11 of SAS Nagar.

Rain continued in several parts of Himachal Pradesh too, leading to a marginal drop in minimum temperatures in the state.
