A city-based cardiologist sustained a fracture to the arm after he was allegedly attacked with a baseball bat by a man in an inebriated condition at Rajguru Nagar on Thursday morning. The man who was driving a Swift car also vandalised the windowpanes of the doctor’s car.
The victim was identified as Dr Manpreet Singh Bindra. Police said the doctor was on his way to his clinic in the morning when he blew the horn at the Swift car asking for a side. But the man got out of his car in a rage, took a baseball bat and started hitting him and damaged his car.
The doctor ran for his life and took shelter inside a shop while the attacker fled the spot after the incident. On being informed, Sarabha Nagar police started an investigation. Police have traced the attacker through the registration number of his car.
Dr Bindra said he left home to go to his clinic in the morning. When he was on the road near Royal Palace, he blew the horn asking a Swift car to let him pass.
“Instead of letting me pass, the man started threatening me. When I resisted, he took a baseball bat out of his car and vandalised the windowpanes. He tried injuring my head but ended up hitting the elbow causing a fracture,” he said.
He added, “I escaped from the spot and took shelter inside a shop. The man chased me, but when people challenged him he fled the spot. The whole incident was captured in the CCTV cameras installed outside a gurudwara.”
Assistant sub-inspector Janakraj, who is investigating the matter, said police have registered a case against Balwinder Singh of BRS Nagar. No arrests have been made yet.
Police have also come to know that Balwinder had thrashed a three-wheeler driver in the morning, who was admitted to Deepak Hospital in Sarabha Nagar. He also attacked another person in a similar manner before he finally attacked Dr Bindra.
