Speeding cars cause major accidents; police fail to install lights

The police have now come to know that the Audi car that killed two on Sunday wee hours on the Ferozepur road stretch that has snuffed out lives even in the past. The police have not been able to install lights or station personnel during the night time when such a speed becomes common at the stretch.
The police have come to know that the driver of the Audi was having a race with a Skoda car on the fateful night. The owner of the vehicle was identified as Sumit who belongs to a business family of Sonepat in Haryana. According to the sources, the four digit number of the vehicle was 1116 that the police have been able to know.
Assistant commissioner of police (west) Rupinder Kaur is coordinating with the Haryana police to nab the culprit who had come to Ludhiana to attend a marriage. However, during the wee hours on Sunday when the accused touched the stretch of the road opposite Verka Milk plant, it hit the two bike riders who died on spot.
Shockingly, speeding luxury cars have killed and injured many in the past but the traffic police have not been able to take appropriate measures. On the other hand, the failure of municipal corporation in installing of traffic lights and blinkers has also added to the problem.
In February 2014, Gurpreet Singh (22) was killed in a road accident when he was returning from a marriage. Incident took place near Mall Road when Singh lost control over his vehicle.
In October 27 last year two youths were killed when the BMW they were driving crashed into a road side tree on Ludhiana’s Sarabha Nagar road as the driver lost control over the car. The impact of the collision was so powerful that the car was broken into three pieces. Owner of the vehicle Dhani Ram was rushed to the hospital while other occupants Ganga Sharma and Rajat Dua died on the spot.
In March 2014, racing of luxury cars claimed life of 26-year-old while his friend was severely injured. Akshit Kharbanda, victim, who was driving the vehicle along with his friend died when he entered a race with another luxury car on Ferozepur road. Suddenly Kharbanda lost control over his car and rammed into a pole killing him and injuring his friend.
In a similar incident in July this year, a BMW car hit an electricity pole situated opposite to Gurdev Hospital at the Ferozepur road. The car driver pressed the accelerator instead of applying brakes while crossing the road on his way to Mullanpur. The family inside the vehicle was injured severely.
Richa Agnihotri, assistant commissioner of police (ACP traffic) said that all accident prone areas would be checked and a list of accidents that took place this year is being prepared.
