Sudeeksha, the youngest of the three daughters of Baba Hardev Singh, the Nirankari sect chief who died in a car crash in Canada two years ago, was anointed as head of the sect in a simple ceremony in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The current sect head Mata Savinder performed the ceremony offering ‘gaddi’ and ‘tilak’ to Sudeeksha who’s in her mid-thirties. Sudeeksha has became the youngest and second woman to head the sect that was founded in 1929 and currently has nearly one crore followers. She has become the sixth head of the sect.

Sudeeksha is the widow of Avneet Setya who also died in the accident with Baba Hardev Singh in May 2016. They were married in June 2015.

On Monday, Mata Savinder had announced the name of Sudeeksha as the new sect chief to her close aides. Sudeeksha’s name was picked as she is considered spiritual and more inclined to the sect works.

Sudeeksha’s name was floated for the sect head post after Baba Hardev’s death too, but her mother Mata Savinder became the popular choice.
