An argument on WhatsApp group between two friends claimed life of a 19-year-old boy at Sahnewal on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Dawinder Singh alias Raju, 19, of Jandiali village.
The Sahnewal police have started probe and sent the body to the civil hospital for autopsy.
Police said two friends, Himanshu and Guggu Grewal, entered into an argument on a WhatsApp group over some issue. They dared each other to meet in person near the Tagore Public School.
The victim, Davinder, who was common friend of Himanshu and Guggu, intervened in the matter and tried to avert the clash.
Police officials said Guggu along with his group reached outside the school around 12 pm, but the other party, led by Himanshu, failed to turn up.
The group leaders then challenged each other over phone to meet near the grain market. Both groups reached near the market and entered into a scuffle. Davinder tried to pacify them.
However, some group members, who were carrying sharp-edged weapons, allegedly stabbed him resulting in his death on the spot. The accused fled from the scene spot after the incident.
Two others suffered injuries in the clash. Sahnewal police station in-charge inspector Hardeep Singh said cops are recording statements in the case and a manhunt has been launched to arrest the accused.
