Pritam Kagne was always inclined towards creative arts, but she didn’t always focus on acting as a career. In fact, she was working as a speech-language pathologist at Ruby Hall Clinic, Pune, when the turning point in her life arrived in the form of an acting workshop. “It was a 10-day acting workshop where I made a lot of friends. These new friends encouraged me to look at acting as a profession. They guided me throughout and also showed me the path. This phase was an eye opener,” she says.

A Bharati Vidyapeeth University alumnus, Pritam was noticed by directors when she was anchoring the Marathi play, Natasamrat. She says, “During these shows, I was approached by theatre directors and I tried my hand on stage. It was a fulfilling experience, and I decided to explore it some more. I am glad I decided to dabble in dance, theatre and anchoring, as all of these are useful to me now in the film industry.”

Pritam believes her family is equally responsible for the growth of her career. “Mom has always been supportive. Initially, dad was skeptical and wasn’t completely sure of me taking my acting as a profession. It was during the premiere of Navra Majha Bhawra (2013) that I saw acceptance in his eyes. He was overwhelmed that his daughter was sharing the screen and stage space with dignitaries. That day onwards, he has been very supportive and pushes me to do more.”

A Pune girl, Pritam says she owes her professional journey to the city. “Pune exposed me to cultural events, theatre and now films. It was the reason I started my acting journey and have reached where I am. I have a special connection with the city,”
