Debutant Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Maanagaram has been very well received by critics and audiences alike. At the box office, the film is slowly gaining momentum. The film’s producer SR Prabhu had earlier released two quality Tamil films--Maya, an intelligent horror thriller with Nayanthara, and political satire drama Joker, which was one of the most critically acclaimed Tamil films of 2016.

For Joker, superstar Rajinikanth had personally called Prabhu and lauded him for producing a gutsy film on the current political happenings without taking any sides. Once again for Maanagaram, Prabhu had received a call from Rajinikanth and the actor is said to have spoken in detail about the engaging new age crime thriller.

Maanagaram is all about four people with diverse lifestyle connected through a kidnapping episode and their perspective on the fast-moving urban life. Though the Tamil version has been receiving a lot of praise and doing well at the box office, the Telugu dubbed version didn’t work with the local audiences in Andhra Pradesh/Telangana.

Maanagaram has Shri, Sundeep Kishan, Regina Cassandra, Charlie, Munishkanth and Madhu Sudhan Rao in lead roles.
