Suriya and 2D Entertainment’s encouraging gesture towards short filmmakers

A new contest gives young short filmmakers an opportunity to tell an interesting story in three minutes – a challenge for any new talent who wants to make a mark proving their expertise.

First Clap, an initiative of Moviebuff, is India’s first theatrically showcased talent hunt for aspiring filmmakers, challenging them to tell a compelling story in three minutes on any subject of their interest. Among the 250 entries that were received from December 16, 2016, the top five shortlisted films are being screened for a period of five weeks across 150 screens in the Qube Cinema Network from March 3rd 2017 to 13th April 2017.

The shortlisted finalists include App(a) Lock - Directed by Pradeep Ranganathan,Indha Naal Iniya Naal - Directed by Magesh Balasubramaniam, Ival Azhagu -Directed by Sri Vijay Ganapathy, Think & Ink- Directed by Nattu Dev and Yennanga Sir Unga Sattam - Directed by Prabhu Jeyaram.

The judges include Cinematographer and Director PC Sreeram, Director Ezhil, Director Vetrimaran, Cinematographer Mahesh Muthuswamy, Director Arun Kumar SU, CEO of 2D Entertainment Rajasekar Karpoorasundarapandian, Film Editor KL Praveen, Audiographer Udayakumar and Director Hari Viswanath among others.

“This contest is an opportunity to tell an interesting story in three minutes – a challenge for any new talent or filmmaker who wants to make a mark proving their expertise. At the same time, when presented on the big screen, the filmmaker can also gauge and experience audience reaction first-hand. We all have ideas or experiences in life that are worthy of translation to film. It will be interesting to see the caliber of filmmaking this contest garners,” says Tamil Superstar Suriya.
