Women are 50 percent more likely to snub Valentine’s Day compared to men, a research has claimed. Figures show that more women are also more likely to mark the day with nothing more than a card, shunning any extravagant show of affection.

Figures show that more women are also more likely to mark the day with nothing more than a card, shunning any extravagant show of affection, the Telegraph reported.

The findings were made in a poll of around 2,000 men and women by the researchers Consumer Intelligence. The survey found that around 21.5 percent of women said that they would do nothing to celebrate the event, compared with just 14.5 percent of men.

More than 25 percent of women relied on sending a card – up from 16 percent of men. The finding also showed that men were considerably more likely to make an effort – and spend money – on their partners than women.

According to researchers, men were more likely to buy flowers, provide chocolates, arrange a candlelit dinner at a restaurant, book a weekend away, buy theatre tickets and spend money on champagne or jewellery.
