It was a pleasant Wednesday morning as players of the proposed IMG-Reliance (IMG-R) tournament sweated it out at the Cooperage.

Among the group were India centre-backs Gouramangi Singh and Nirmal Chhetri.

The duo will not feature in this edition of the I-League but have pinned hopes on the success of the new franchise-based tournament.

“People have been wondering, ‘what is going to happen’, but we’re hopeful that there’ll be a solution. Indian football is in transition and growing, and we have complete belief in IMG-R that they have made plans for the future.

After all, they’re AIFF’s (All India Football Federation) official partners,” said Gouramangi, who has played 61 matches for India.

But, Chhetri and he are also keen an understanding is reached between IMG-R and I-League to ensure players get a year-round opportunity to play. “Every player wants to play in both the IMG-R tournament and I-League. And if things are not sorted out, we believe IMG-R have a Plan B,” said the 22-year-old Chhetri.
