We have worked with Anup Surendranath, director of The Centre on the Death Penalty at NLU, Delhi, and his team, to produce this investigative series. The Centre has authored an exhaustive report based on personal interviews with all prisoners under the sentence of death between June 2013 and January 2015, and their families. The Centre has also, wherever possible, relied on official records received from courts and prisons across the country.

Their research — which takes stock of the way India administers the death penalty — has been invaluable for our reporting. Most, if not all, of the data we have used is sourced from the Centre's Death Penalty India Report, released on 6th May 2016.
