Sport the spoof
Join Rajnican and Bas Aunty at the Olympics for a round of archery or javelin throw, or take on Dawn and Shame Shahtech reviews Updated: Aug 22, 2012 18:40 IST
Your dream of racing against Thakur from Sholay (1975) or taking on the ever-popular Rajinikanth could now easily become reality. You can pit your sporting skills against them and several other Bollywood characters in Olympic events as a part of Bollympics 2012. The game launched by Hungama Game Studios brings together the best of the Summer Olympics 2012, with events such as archery, athletics, basketball, mountain biking, swimming, hockey and weightlifting as well as Bollywood’s biggest superstars on one platform. Players from all over the world can then challenge them and “become the greatest champion in the virtual world”.
“This is the second season of the game. The first one was launched after the 2008 Olympics. It is all about spoofing Bollywood, but we add an element of fun with the Olympics. This time around, we have added several new characters and introduced events like archery, swimming and hockey,” says Manish Malik, assistant vice president, gaming and applications, Hungama.
As part of Bollympics, users take on caricatured Bollywood characters like Rajnican, Professor iRus, Bus Aunty and Killer Bob Kickass. Winners are awarded virtual medals, and are featured on the leader board. “We’ve used Bollywood characters as they make these events more relatable. Also, through these little games, we create more awareness about these individual sports,” says Malik.
And if the Olympic fever dies down, there’s no reason to fear. The T20 World Cup, which is to be held in Sri Lanka next month, is on the Hungama team’s agenda. Malik says, “There are more licensing issues when it comes to cricket. But we are working on it.”
