Apple could be ditching its pressure sensitive ‘3D Touch’ feature on one of its iPhones this year. Apple is expected to launch three iPhones this year out of which two would feature 3D Touch. KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo states that Apple will opt for a new display which is not compatible with 3D Touch.

Apple is expected to completely ditch Touch ID on its iPhones in 2019. Cult of Mac reports Kuo saying that Apple will be updating the display for its upcoming iPhones by going for one that will be lighter reducing chances for it to break.

From the series, Apple is said to launch an upgraded 5.8-inch iPhone X and a 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus. These two iPhones with their OLED displays would support Touch ID. The third iPhone in the making would be a 6.1-inch LCD model with the updated display.

The new display will reportedly raise costs to between $23 and $26, thus, leading Kuo to predict that since Apple’s new display module is more expensive, it might ditch the 3D Touch features to balance costs.

Apple is also expected to launch the second-generation iPhone SE soon. iPhone SE 2 is expected to come with upgrades like a slightly bigger screen. It will however retain the Touch ID button according to recent leaks.
