Stories about Apple iPhones having miraculously survived underwater aren’t new. But it is always fun to see how a device not manufactured for this purpose comes out and surprises everyone. This time, an iPhone which was submerged 30 feet on a seabed was discovered by a scuba diver with 84% of battery left off Dorset in southwest England.
Cerys Hearsey, the diver, discovered the iPhone when she saw a flashing light on the seabed, Mirror reported. Hearsey saw that the iPhone’s screen lit up when a text message arrived on the device. She also discovered that the iPhone was wrapped in a waterproof case. Details of the company behind this waterproof case haven’t been revealed as yet.
The report further states that Hearsey was able to find the owner of the iPhone by going through the contacts. The iPhone was returned to the Canadian owner’s cousin, Rob Smith who said that it was lost during a kayaking episode. The iPhone is said to have been underwater for at least two days till it was discovered by Hearsey.
Looks like the waterproof case proved its worth as the iPhone remained functional. It isn’t known which iPhone model it was. Apple’s iPhones are water resistant but not waterproof, and definitely not manufactured to survive under the sea. Starting from Apple’s iPhone 7 series, the devices are IP67 certified which means the phone can withstand being under water up to a meter for half an hour.
Another case of an even bizarre miraculous iPhone survival story took place in 2016 with the older iPhone 4. After being trapped in ice for a year, the iPhone 4 was recovered and even turned on. This iPhone 4 was also protected by an OtterBox case, a company famous for its tough phone cases. The edges of the iPhone’s display were a little damaged but it was functional.
