Apple’s 10th anniversary iPhone 8 may support wireless charging
Apple is expected to come with big-bang features on its 10th-anniversary iPhone 8 and wireless charging could be one of the them. The company is expected to release an update to its iPhone 7 series in the form of a 7S and 7S Plus in the first half of 2017.Updated: Feb 10, 2017 20:31 IST
Apple iPhone 8’s rumour bandwagon keeps getting heavier and this time speculations are making rounds that the 10th-anniversary edition of iPhone will come with a wireless charging facility.
Who is sparking the rumours? None other than noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who works for KGI securities. “While we don’t expect general users to notice any difference, lamination of an additional graphite sheet is needed for better thermal control and, thus, steady operation; this is because FPCB is replaced with film, which is more sensitive to temperature change of the 3D touch sensor in OLED iPhone,” a note from Kuo reads.
However, Kuo’s note might not all be good news for consumers as the additional graphite sheet is going to make iPhones costlier. A recent report had also suggested that the iPhone 8 will come with an onerous price tag pf $1,000 or something really close to it.
Other speculations indicate that the iPhone 8 will come in two sizes with OLED displays and better water resistant features. It is also expected to come with better 3D Touch technology.
Taiwanese sources have also claimed that Apple has bypassed usual supplier Foxconn and placed orders for forged stainless steel iPhone casings from manufacturing partner Jabil. The iPhone-maker had last relied on stainless steel instead of aluminium on the iPhone 4S but had to switch to aluminium due to quality issues. This means that the iPhone 8 may come with glass front and rear with a steel chasis on the sides.
