After launching premium Key2, Optiemus Infracom, the India licensee for BlackBerry brand, is set to launch two new smartphones in India. Unlike the Key2, BlackBerry’s latest phones will come with full touchscreens targeted at the young generation.
Dubbed as BlackBerry Evolve and Evolve X, the phones will come with a slew of India-focused features. Ahead of its launch today, BlackBerry teased its upcoming phones on YouTube.
Gathered from the teaser video, BlackBerry Evolve will possibly come with a dual-camera setup as rumoured earlier. The rear panel also houses a circular fingerprint sensor below the camera lens. There’s also the BlackBerry branding visible below the fingerprint sensor. The video also reveals the volume keys and power button placed at the right side of the phone.
The video also shows the front of the phone. Reports suggest it will come with an aspect ratio of 18:9. This essentially means slimmer bezels for the BlackBerry Evolve and Evolve X as seen on the modern smartphones. The new BlackBerry smartphones are also expected to come with a larger 4,000mAh battery.
BlackBerry’s Evolve series of smartphones will come with the company’s known trait of ensuring privacy and security. BlackBerry will most likely include the company’s DTEK security software app on the new Evolve smartphones. DTEK helps users monitor and control the level of security on BlackBerry smartphones. The app checks security of the smartphone through different apps like camera, calendar, contacts, and location.
Commenting on BlackBerry’s focus on security and privacy for its smartphones, Optiemus’s executive director Hardip Singh had said, “If it’s a BlackBerry phone, it’s assumed that the phone will have best of the class specifications. So, what sets apart BlackBerry from any other brand is the basic three DNAs of BlackBerry — privacy, security and convenience.”
