Honor rolls out ‘Face Unlock’ feature to HonorView 10
The update should be available to all HonorView 10 users by January 24.tech Updated: Jan 19, 2018 09:48 IST
Huawei’s online-only brand Honor on Thursday announced a new software update that will bring Face ID-inspired ‘Face Unlock’ feature to its HonorView 10 phones.
The Over-The-Air (OTA) update will reach all “View 10” devices by January 24, the company said in a statement.
To enable the feature, you need to register your face by accessing face-recognition feature in phone settings menu.
The Rs 29,999 Honor View 10 detects the positioning between a user and the device and adjusts the direction accordingly.
The Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology not only unlocks the device when sensors recognise your face but also turn off the screen when it senses that the users are no longer reading. It also detects users’ position and adjusts the direction accordingly.
The update will also enable closed-eye face-unlock prevention and intelligent screen-on. Honor View 10 has octa-core Kirin 970 chipset, 6GB RAM, 128GB on-board memory and EMUI 8.0.
Face Unlock: The new trend
Apart from Honor, Android players such as OnePlus and OPPO are also rolling out the face unlock feature on their phones. OnePlus introduced the feature with OnePlus 5T and now is rolling out the same to older models like OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 5.
Just recently, OPPO launched A83 with the same feature. Another Chinese handset company Vivo has also launched the face unlock feature on its V7 phones in India.
