IFA 2018: Samsung, LG unveil its QLED and OLED 8K TVs

Prior to the official start of IFA 2018 in Berlin, Samsung and LG have unveiled their latest innovations in 8K TV experience.

LG OLED 8K TV features over 33 million self-emitting pixels(LG)

Samsung at the IFA tech conference in Berlin unveiled a new series of 8K QLED TVs with 8K AI Upscaling. Samsung’s Q900R QLED 8K TVs come in 65-inch, 75-inch, 82-inch and 85-inch sizes. LG, on the other hand unveiled the world’s first OLED 8K TV.

Samsung’s QLED 8K TVs are equipped with Real 8K Resolution which offers 4,000 nits of peak brightness. The QLED 8K TVs are powered by Quantum Processor 8K which automatically adjusts the quality of content to 8K irrespective of which platform the user is streaming from.

“We’re thrilled to introduce the Q900R to consumers and are confident that they will experience nothing short of brilliance in color, clarity and sound on our new 8K-capable models,” Jongsuk Chu, Senior Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung said.

LG’s OLED TV is available in 88-inches and features over 33 million self-emitting pixels. Brian Kwon, president of LG Home Entertainment Company said, “LG’s first 8K OLED TV is the pinnacle of technological achievement and the next evolutionary step in display technology. 4K OLED played a major role in reshaping TV industry and LG is confident that 8K OLED will do the same.”

LG hasn’t announced any pricing or availability details for its 8K OLED TV. However, the product’s commercial launch can be expected soon in the near future. The company plans to contribute to the OLED TV market share which is expected to double this year and reach over nine million units in 2022.
