IFA 2018: Sony Xperia XZ3 with Android Pie, wireless charging launched

Sony’s latest Xperia smartphone features an OLED display with QHD+ resolution backed with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor.

Sony launched a new smartphone at the IFA tech conference in Berlin. Sony Xperia XZ3 runs the latest Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box. The smartphone will be available by September end with pricing details to be announced later.

Sony Xperia XZ3 features ‘Side sense’ technology, a gesture-based feature to launch favourite apps. Double tapping on either side of the smartphone will launch an array of apps which the user would want to use next. Sony Xperia XZ3 comes in four colour options of black, white silver, forest green and bordeaux red.

Sony Xperia XZ3 specifications

Sony Xperia XZ3 features a 6-inch OLED display with QHD+ (1440x2880pixels) resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top. The smartphone runs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor under its hood. It comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. Also on offer is a microSD card slot for further storage expansion up to 512GB.

Sony Xperia XZ3 packs a 3,300mAh battery along with quick charge support. It also comes with IP68 certification for water and dust resistance.

Sony Xperia smartphones stand out for their camera capabilities, and the Xperia XZ3 is no less. The smartphone features a 19-megapixel Motion Eye camera with predictive hybrid autofocus and super slow motion video recording at 960 fps. Up front, the smartphone houses a 13-megapixel camera with Sony Exmor RS sensor and wide-angle lens.

Connectivity options on the Xperia XZ3 include dual SIM support, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and USB Type-C port. The smartphone also features a fingerprint sensor and comes with support for wireless charging.
