Apple kicked off its annual conference for developers WWDC 2018 with announcements made on the company’s software platforms - iOS, watchOS, and macOS.

The major highlight from the event was Apple’s focus on its augmented reality platform. Apple announced the upgrade to ARKit with ARKit 2.0. The version 2.0 focuses on making the technology available cross-platform and more intuitive for users. Apple introduced a new Measure application that uses AR for precise measurement of the space around you.

The WWDC 2018 also focused on digital wellbeing. The latest Apple software allows users to control the time spent on the applications. Apple iOS 12
With iOS 12, Apple aims to improve software performance on iPads and iPhones.

“Camera launches up to 70 percent faster, the keyboard appears up to 50 percent faster and typing is more responsive. Even when there is a lot going on across the system, apps can launch up to twice as fast. From iPhone 5s introduced in 2013 to the most advanced iPhone ever, iPhone X, iOS 12 brings performance improvements to more devices than any previous version,” says the company.

Apple’s iOS 12 also comes with Group FaceTime, improved Photos, and new security features.

“In Safari, enhanced Intelligent Tracking Prevention helps block social media “Like” or “Share” buttons and comment widgets from tracking users without permission. Safari now also presents simplified system information when users browse the web, preventing them from being tracked based on their system configuration. Safari now also automatically creates, autofills and stores strong passwords when users create new online accounts and flags reused passwords so users can change them,” said Apple.

Apple iOS 12 developer preview is available to Apple Developer Program users via develop.apple.com starting today. The public beta programme will be launched for iOS users later this month via beta.apple.com.

Apple iOS 12 compatible devices include iPhone 5s and later, all iPad Air and iPad Pro models, iPad 5th generation, iPad 6th generation, iPad mini 2 and later and iPod touch 6th generation. ALSO READ: Apple announces iOS 12 for iPhones and iPads

Apple TV 4K, tvOS 12
As the name suggests, the new Apple TV supports 4K content. It also comes with Dolby Atmos integration for audio and Dolby Vision for visuals.

“With tvOS 12, Apple further simplifies the authentication process with zero sign-on. Apple TV simply detects the user’s broadband network and automatically signs them in to all the supported apps they receive through their subscription — no typing required. Zero sign-on begins with Charter later this year and will expand to other providers over time,” said Apple.

The tvOS developer preview is available for Apple Developer Program members at developer.apple.com starting today.

macOS Mojave
Touted as the world’s most advanced desktop operating system, macOS Mojave comes with new features for professionals and home users.

“macOS Mojave is a major update that introduces powerful new features for a wide range of Mac users, from consumers to pros,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “Dark Mode brings a dramatic new look to macOS that puts your content front and center, familiar iOS apps come to the Mac for the first time and the redesigned Mac App Store makes finding new apps easier and more enjoyable than ever.”

Top new features of macOS Mojave include a new Dark Mode, Desktop and Finder for app organising, Group FaceTime, and all new Mac App Store.

“In macOS Mojave, the Mac App Store gets a complete redesign with a new look and rich editorial content that makes it easy to find the right Mac app. The new design highlights new and updated apps in the Discover tab, while tabs for Create, Work, Play and Develop help users find apps for a specific project or purpose. A number of apps from top developers are also coming soon to the Mac App Store, including Office from Microsoft, Lightroom CC from Adobe and more,” said Apple.
