No one can buy the Rs 251 smartphone because the site keeps crashing
Freedom251 bookings are riddled with issues, as buyers are unable to book the smartphoneFreedom 251 smartphone Updated: Feb 19, 2016 14:10 IST
Have you tried actually buying the world’s cheapest smartphone? It’s near-impossible. The phone, which costs Rs. 251, went on sale at 6 am on Thursday, February 18 through the official website, www.freedom251.com.
We’ve been up since 5:30 am trying to buy it too, but we haven’t had any luck so far, probably because thousands of people are bombarding the site every second. Here’s what our experience has been like so far:
When we click on the “Buy Now” option on the website’s homepage, we are asked to fill in details such as shipping address, quantity, phone number, and email address.
However, once we fill in the details and hit the “Pay Now” icon, the site automatically redirects us to the same Buy Now page -- where we’re asked to fill in all the details again.
We aren’t the only ones. Here’s what Twitter users have been saying:
@freedom251india after clicking pay button it again bringing to same page plz fix it— Irshad Mirza (@IamIrshadMirza) February 18, 2016
Ringing Bells has responded on Twitter saying that the issue will be rectified very soon. The story has also been updated with an official statement from the company Freedom 251’s dedicated website:
“We are very grateful for your enormous response and your kind patronage and would submit that as of now we receive approx 6 Lacs hits per second as a result of which due to your kind overwhelming response servers are over loaded. We humbly submit that we are therefore taking a pause and upgrading the service and will revert within or before 24 hours.”
