OnePlus 6 is among the first non-Google smartphones to receive Android P beta. OnePlus has now rolled out the second iteration of Android P Developer 2 Preview for OnePlus 6 users. In addition to Android P features, this update brings OxygenOS fixes and changes for OnePlus 6.

OnePlus 6 users can download the Android P Beta by following this link. Note that installing this OS on your OnePlus 6 will require you to backup your existing data as it will wipe your phone completely. Your phone’s battery should be well above 30% and you should have at least 3GB of space.

How to install Android P Beta

After downloading the ROM, copy it to your smartphone.

Go to Settings > System updates > Local upgrade.

After the ROM package is installed, shut down your phone.

Enter recovery mode by pressing the power button and volume button together.

Factory reset your phone and reboot it.

Android P Beta comes with risks as you will be flashing an unstable ROM. OnePlus recommends this process only for early adopters and developers. You can always go back to the stable version of the phone by following the steps detailed by OnePlus in its forum. Here’s a look at the changes and features Android P Developer Preview 2 brings for OnePlus 6.

According to the changelog shared by OnePlus, this update comes with fixes for ‘FaceUnlock’ which did not function properly earlier. It also comes with fixes for camera and compatibility issues for apps. Other than fixes, this update will also disable a few functionalities like Wi-Fi SoftAP device manager, camera portrait mode, and widevine L1.

Xdadevelopers have outlined the new OxygenOS features arriving on OnePlus 6 with the latest Android P Beta. Users can now add custom colours for the system functions on OnePlus 6. This update also brings the ability to hide the notch along with full-screen gestures OnePlus first introduced on the 5T. The smartphone’s camera is also integrated with Google Lens feature. In addition to this, the latest Android P Beta comes with support for dual cameras on OnePlus 6.
