Samsung on Thursday launched its flagship smartphone, Galaxy Note 9.
Samsung Galaxy Note 9 starts at $999 (Rs 68,800 approximately) for the base model, and $1,249 (Rs 86,000 approximately) for the top model.
Samsung also announced the new S Pen which comes with a finer tip and higher pressure sensitivity. Samsung S Pen comes with support for Bluetooth Low Energy which allows users to access key smartphone features like taking a selfie.
Fortnite on Galaxy Note 9
Epic Games announced the launch of Fortnite on Android with exclusivity to Galaxy Note 9. Fortnite beta will launch for Galaxy Note 9 this week. Galaxy Note 9 users will also get an exclusive Fortnite skin called ‘Galaxy’.
Samsung Galaxy Watch
Samsung also announced a new wearable at the event - Galaxy Watch. Samsung Galaxy Watch comes with a hi-res Gorilla DX+ Glass display. It is equipped with 5 ATM for water resistance. Samsung says that the Galaxy Watch can go on for several days on a single charge.
Samsung announced another product which is the company’s first smart speaker. Galaxy Home smart speaker is powered the company’s AI-based assistant, Bixby.
Samsung Galaxy Note 9 specifications
Samsung Galaxy Note 9 features a 6.4-inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED display. The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor for the US model, and in-house Exynos 9810 SoC for other markets. In terms of storage, Galaxy Note 9 comes in two variants - 6GB RAM plus 128GB storage, 8GB RAM plus 512GB storage.
For photography, Galaxy Note 9 sports a dual-camera setup of 12-megapixel sensors with dual optical image stabilisation, and an 8-megapixel selfie camera.
On the software front, Galaxy Note 9 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo. The smartphone is powered by a 4,000mAh battery. Like the Galaxy Note 8, its successor also comes with support for wireless charging.
Samsung’s ‘Galaxy Unpacked’ event witnessed the launch of Galaxy Note 9 smartphone along with Galaxy Watch, and Bixby-based Galaxy Home smart speaker. The company also announced Fortnite on Android for Galaxy Note 9 and a newly upgraded S Pen.
Galaxy Note 9: Availability
Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will go on sale starting August 24 in select markets.

Spotify will soon support Bixby and be integrated with Samsung Music.
Samsung’s Bixby-powered Galaxy Home speaker supports Spotify, which competes with Apple Music.

Samsung says the improved Bixby is more conversational and gives personalised recommendations. Samsung says it is working with different partners to build more skills for Bixby. The digital assistant will also be working with Google’s digital assistant.
The new wearable comes with heart rate sensor, better battery life and performance.
New wireless charger
Samsung’s new wireless charger can support both Note 9 and Galaxy Watch at the same time.

Samsung unveils Galaxy Watch, a new version of its wearable. The new smartwatch has a circular display and is available in two sizes. The smartwatch has touchscreen protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. It supports LTE, making it a standalone device.
Dex is now built into Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9. The technology allows users to mirror phone to a larger screen. Samsung has introduced a special connector. The DeX automatically optimises the phone content to a desktop-like experience.
More S Pen features
Samsung Galaxy Note 9’s S Pen aims to be a universal remote control. Samsung is allowing developers to build more capabilities to the S Pen. The latest iteration of S Pen comes with finer tip and higher pressure sensitivity.
New S Pen
Samsung’s S Pen now supports Bluetooth Low Energy. This allows users to access key smartphone features through S Pen. For instance, users can take a selfie from Note 9 while using the S Pen as a remote control. Users can also control presentations.
Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will automatically notify users if the subject has closed eyes when taking a photo. Samsung comes with smart scene detection features, similar to newer Android phones.

Apart from access to Fortnite beta, Samsung is offering AKG headphones for improved gaming experience.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has 4,000mAh battery, largest on any Galaxy Note phone ever. It’s also larger than the current flagship phones. The base model starts at 128GB. There’s also a 512GB model. The phone supports microSD slot up to 512GB storage, giving users over 1TB of storage.
