Xiaomi set the cat among pigeons earlier this week with the launch of Poco F1 smartphone under its sister brand ‘Poco’. Poco F1 boasts specifications and features one would normally see on a premium smartphone. Poco F1 starts at Rs 20,999 with its top model carrying a price tag of Rs 29,999.

True to Xiaomi’s nature, Poco F1 was made keeping hardware priority. Poco F1 poses a threat to smartphones priced higher like the OnePlus 6, Honor 10, and Asus Zenfone 5Z. It also has a direct competitor in the same price range and with similar features – Honor Play. Here’s a detailed comparison between the two phones.

Gaming
First things first, Poco F1 and Honor Play have dedicated gaming features. Xiaomi’s Poco F1 comes with ‘LiquidCooling’ technology which as the name suggests prevents the smartphone from overheating. Poco F1 is powered by Snapdragon 845 SoC which is Qualcomm’s best processor so far. Gaming on this smartphone is expected to be a smooth and comfortable experience.

Honor Play comes with GPU Turbo technology which helps improve graphics performance while gaming. With GPU Turbo, games on Honor Play have lower drops in frame rates thereby enabling a smooth and fast game play. Honor says that GPU Turbo will also save battery of the smartphone by 30%. Honor Play runs in-house Kirin 970 processor.

Design, display
Poco F1 doesn’t shine much on the design aspect. It has a polycarbonate unibody with three colour options of graphite black, steel blue, and rosso red. There’s a special ‘Armoured’ edition which uses a sturdy Kevlar material and a textured back. The smartphone is quite handy but isn’t one to turn heads.

Honor Play, unlike its sister smartphones doesn’t have a flashy glass body. The company has opted for a metal body with a matte finish on the rear. It has a subtle but premium look and is pretty slim and light for a metal phone. Honor Play is available in two colours - blue and black.

Poco F1 and Honor Play are at par in terms of display with both phones sporting a notch. Poco F1 features a 6.18-inch Full HD+ display with 18.9:7 aspect ratio. Honor Play has a 6.2-inch with the same Full HD+ resolution but a slightly bigger 19:9 aspect ratio.

Camera
Poco F1 and Honor Play smartphones have similar features to offer in the camera department. In terms of specifics, Poco F1 sports a dual-camera setup of 12-megapixel and 5-megapixel AI cameras at the rear. Using AI, the smartphone can detect 206 scenes across 25 categories. The front 20-megapixel camera can detect up to 10 different scenes.

Honor Play also has AI cameras at the rear comprising of 16-megapixel and 2-megapixel snappers. Honor says that the smartphone can detect a total of 500 scenes across 22 categories. Up front it has a 16-megapixel camera with Apple-inspired ‘3D Portrait Lighting’ for effects.

Battery
Xiaomi smartphones are known of having strong battery life and Poco F1 is no different with the smartphone housing a 4,000mAh battery. The smartphone also supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 with a USB Type-C for charging.

Honor Play has a slightly smaller 3,750mAh battery fuelling the smartphone but with support for fast charging and smart power management.

Price
Poco F1 is offered in four variants as compared to Honor Play which has two storage models. Poco F1 with 6GB RAM plus 64GB and 128GB storage is priced at Rs 20,999 and Rs 23,999 respectively. The top model of Poco F1 comes with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage at Rs 28,999. The ‘Armoured’ edition is the most expensive of the lot at Rs 29,999.
