Xiaomi on Wednesday launched the upgrade to its best-selling smartphone in India, Redmi Note 4. Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is priced at 9,999 for the base variant, and 11,999 for the higher model. The smartphone comes in four color options of black, gold, 'Lake Blue' and 'Rose Gold'.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 will be available via Flipkart and offline channels starting February 22. Xiaomi is also offering an ultra-slim case free with the device.

As expected, Redmi Note 5 comes with upgrades and improvements over its predecessor. However, the biggest and most notable change in the successor is its 'Full Display'. Redmi Note 5 is taller with its 5.99-inch FHD+ 18:9 display and a 2.5D curved glass on top. It also features on-screen buttons replacing the capacitive touch buttons.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 626 octa-core processor paired with Adreno 506 GPU for graphics. The smartphone is available in two storage variants with the base model offering 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The higher model packs 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. There is no bump in storage this time.

In the photography department, Redmi Note 5 sports a 12-megapixel rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and PDAF support. Up front it houses a 5-megapixel camera with LED selfie-light, and Beautify 3.0 for selfies. The connectivity options available on the device include dual-SIM support (Hybrid setup), 4G LTE with VoLTE support, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi.

In terms of power, Redmi Note 5 has a slightly smaller battery than Redmi Note 4. However, Xiaomi claims that its 4,000mAh battery offers up to 14 hours of video playback, 27 hours of audio, and 8 hours of continuous gaming. It also comes with an India-specific charger that can withstand up to 380V . On the software front, it runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat with MIUI 9 layered on top.
