The meeting, was follow up of a meeting chaired by cabinet secretary Rajiv Gauba last week, in which he had asked states and union territories to prepare the database of priotorised groups such as health workers, the elderly and patients with comorbidities who will receive the Covid-19 vaccine.

Union home secy to review Covid-19 situation in Delhi amid surge in daily cases

The meeting is going to be held amidst the rising cases of coronavirus in Delhi. On Friday, the national capital recorded the highest single-day rise of 5,891 Covid-19 cases, taking Delhi’s tally of infection to over 3.81 lakh.

An 1984-batch IAS officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre, Bhalla took charge as the union home secretary on August 22, 2019, succeeding Rajiv Gauba, who is currently the cabinet secretary.

“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the extension in service of Bhalla as Home Secretary beyond the date of his superannuation i.e. November 30, 2020, up to August 22, 2021,” personnel ministry said in a statement.

The appointments committee of the union cabinet has approved the appointment of Ajay Kumar Bhalla, officer on special duty, ministry of home affairs as home secretary, ministry of home affairs.
