Over 250k hit, 6,200 displaced as floods ravage Assam districts

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, Lakhimpur was the worst-hit district with 105,257 people in the area being affected by flooding followed by Majuli where 57,256 have been hit by the floods.

The water has been receding for the past few days and only over 11,000 people were affected by the deluge in just two districts - Dhemaji and Baksa - on Thursday.

The death toll in Assam has risen to 103 after another person died from drowning on Monday. Meanwhile in Bihar, a total of 2.4 million people have been hit by flood across 11 of 38 districts in Bihar, with Darbhanga being the worst-affected.

A Flood Report issued by the ASDMA stated that the river Brahmaputra was flowing above danger level in several places in the state, and a total of 26 districts have been affected so far.

24 killed, 1.3 million affected as flood hits 25 of 33 districts in Assam

More than 1.3 million people in the affected districts have been hit by flooding. Barpeta, South Salmara and Nalbari were the worst affected districts. Nearly 27,500 people have been uprooted by floodwaters and are taking shelter in 273 relief camps in 12 districts.

The number of flood-hit people in Dhemaji, Jorhat, Majuli, Sivasagar and Dibrugarh districts was 38,000 on Wednesday, while the swirling floodwaters entered Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Golaghat and Tinsukia districts, raising the figure to 1.89 lakh on Thursday.
