The authorities undertook the humungous task of digitising 6,00,000 old, even dog-eared pages of four major documents -- the 1951 NRC done in Assam, the voters lists of 1961, 1966 and 1971 -- together bunched as legacy documents.

After Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, Assam government approves Rs 600 cr farm loan waiver

The BJP government in Assam has approved Rs 600 crore farm loan waiver which it said will benefit around eight lakh farmers of the state, a move that comes in the backdrop of debt woes of farmers becoming a major issue in the run up to the Lok Sabha elections.

Assam government mulls GPS collars on elephants as early warning system

Last week, an elephant which had strayed from the herd killed four people including a child in Kheroni in West Karbi Anglong district. On the same day, another man was trampled to death in Udalguri part of the Bodo Territorial Administrative Districts.

Assam government to stop marking Gorkhas as foreigners

In July, the All Assam Gorkha Students Union had submitted a memorandum to home minister demanding relief for the Gorkha community as they were being marked as D Voters and facing harassment at the tribunals in Assam.
