The incident took place when Priyanka Gandhi took a boat to cross the Ganga river. However, the alert security personnel and Congress workers immediately rushed to Lallu’s rescue and helped him get on the boat.

Priyanka Gandhi in Varanasi, meets activists held during CAA protests

Muslim group in UP pays compensation for damages done in protests

The action was initiated after chief minister Yogi Adityanath on December 19 directed officials to identify the protesters and recover the losses. The process of assessing total losses will continue till December 30.

Uttar Pradesh has seen violent protests against the NRC and CAA resulting in deaths of 18 protestors and injuries to several others since December 19. A child was crushed in a stampede of protestors triggered by police action in Varanasi last Friday.
