CAG forwards draft Rafale report to defence ministry

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India has finalised a draft report on the Rafale deal and sent it to the ministry of defence (MoD) asking for views on it, said a government official familiar with the development requesting anonymity.

The PAC might not summon attorney general and the CAG over the public auditor’s report on Rafale deal, as a majority of the members, including those from opposition parties, are not in favour of the proposal by panel chairman Mallikarjun Kharge.

The senior Congress leader accused the government of “misleading” the Supreme Court by presenting wrong facts about the CAG report on the Rafale deal and demanded that the government should apologise for it.

Need for radical thinking while auditing government companies: Arun Jaitley

Union finance minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday said some radical thinking is needed on the part of the Comptroller and Auditor General while auditing government companies as they are now expected to take quick decisions to compete with private sector firms.

While I agree with the general spirit of the recent recommendations made by the CAG on the Indian Railways, I believe the report has missed a few salient points, which many of the operating railway officers themselves would be aware of

No effective waste management plans in Rajasthan’s local bodies: CAG

In its report tabled in the Rajasthan assembly on September 5 and released to the media on Tuesday, the CAG noted that the state failed to do an assessment of the waste being generated and risk it poses to the environment and human health.

Goa govt’s stamp duty error on 13 mining leases led to 108 cr loss: CAG

The CAG report, for the fiscal 2016-17, said that stamp duty of these 13 leases from January 5, 2015 to February 16, 2016 should have been 169.72 crore, as per proper calculations, instead of 66.45 crore that the state’s Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG) collected.
