Moderation of Class 12 marks was always a flawed idea

An examination should give the student a clear idea about her competence and aptitude. She should get what she deserves. By inflating marks, the boards are also unfairly edging out deserving candidates. So the recent decision of other boards to end inflation of marks is a critical step forward.
States and Union Territories have promised they would stop the practice of inflating marks awarded in Class 12 board exams, easing the path for entry into undergraduate programmes. Students have been deterred by high cut-off marks set by Delhi University colleges that have sometimes touched 100% in recent years (Representative Photo)(HT)

Why we must look beyond the CBSE paper leak

It’s time that we ask ourselves why we have become so obsessed with this performance-driven culture in education, which is giving rise to so much anxiety. The reason: the education system is designed to exclude as many as possible, leading to desperation, especially during exams.

Class 10 maths retest decision after scientific evaluation of random answer sheets, CBSE tells court

The CBSE tells court that the decision not to hold re-examination of Class 10 maths test was taken after a scientific evaluation of random answer sheets did not indicate any unusual pattern to believe that there was widespread benefit of the alleged paper leak.
The CBSE made the submission in an affidavit in which it said it was not conducting the maths paper retest for another reason -- Class 10 is a gateway to Class 11 and therefore “remains largely an internal segment of school education system”.(PTI)
