Tamil Nadu had sought contempt action against the Centre for “failure” to frame the scheme for constitution of the Cauvery Management Board and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee within six weeks.

The meeting comes in the wake of the six-week deadline given by the Supreme Court to the Centre to formulate a scheme ending Thursday. Protests by farmers’ organisations and fringe outfits broke out in different parts of the state.
