Chief minister Banerjee visited the control centre established in view of cyclone Yaas earlier on Tuesday, to inspect the preparations in place. “I have spoken to all the DMs on cyclone Yaas. I will stay in Nabanna tonight. I will monitor the situation closely,” she said.

As part of the preparation, two Navy Diving Teams and five flood relief teams, comprising of specialized Navy personnel with associated equipment and inflatable boats, have been deployed.

Cyclone Yaas Live Tracking: The IMD said on Tuesday that Yaas will cause heavy rains in Odisha and West Bengal with wind speeds of 185 kilometres per hour. Heavy rains are also expected in Bihar and Jharkhand.

Cyclone Yaas is likely to make landfall near Balasore in north Odisha at a speed of 155 kmph to 165 kmph, gusting to 185 kmph, on May 26, the weather department said on Monday.

Cyclone Yaas intensified into severe cyclonic storm on Monday night. It is expected to make landfall early on Wednesday. Disaster relief teams have already been deployed in West Bengal and Odisha, which will face the brunt.
According to the India Metrological Department (IMD), Cyclone Yaas is likely to cross between Paradeep and Sagar Island near Balasore at noon on May 26.
