Centre to table Dam Safety Bill during Parliament’s monsoon session amid Tamil Nadu’s opposition

The Dam Safety Bill will be introduced during Parliament’s monsoon session beginning July 18 amid Tamil Nadu’s opposition to the Centre’s proposal to oversee the safety of dams in shared territories between states.

Dam safety bill: a lot of focus on structural safety, but hardly much on operational aspects

The Bill provides for proper surveillance, inspection, operation and maintenance of all dams to ensure their safe functioning. It also envisages the establishment of a National Dam Safety Authority, a regulatory body to implement the policy, guidelines, and safety standards
