This steep rise has triggered panic among officials at Delhi’s largest burial ground in ITO, where earth movers have been pressed into service to dig multiple graves.

Delhi registers 7,437 new Covid-19 cases, highest spike in over four months

The current Covid-19 case positivity rate in Delhi is 8.10%, while a total of 91,770 Covid-19 tests have been conducted in the national capital. The case fatality rate (CFR) is currently at 1.6%, as per the government health bulletin.

The city reported 1,819 new cases of the infection on Wednesday. While this spike was slightly lower than the peak reported in the month — 1,904 on March 29, it also came on the back of far fewer tests.

Delhi sees over 500 new Covid-19 cases, active caseload rises to 2,702

According to the health department’s bulletin, Delhi recorded 536 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, taking its infection tally to 645,025. This is the first time in more than two months that the national capital has witnessed a spike of over 500 cases in a single day.

Delhi’s positivity rate – proportion of samples that return positive among the total tested – dropped to 0.32%, the lowest the city has seen so far. Positivity rate in Delhi has stayed lower than 1% for 22 days now, as per the government data.

This week, the revenue districts have been directed to systematically launch awareness programmes focused on confidence-building and addressing vaccine hesitancy.Starting Saturday, Covid vaccine will be administered to health care workers, their numbers estimated at 300,000 in Delhi.
