Judge refuses to stop execution of 4 Delhi gangrape convicts, gets another plea

A court on January 7, 2020, issued the death warrant against four convicts and scheduled their execution on January 22. The execution date was postponed twice, first to February 1 and then to March 3 due to the convicts not having exhausted their remedies.

In his new application, AP Singh referred to his meeting with Vinay Sharma yesterday as well as Vinay Sharma’s interaction with his mother. “It was a very serious matter that convict Vinay Sharma could not identified to his counsel and mother in jail,” AP Singh’s application says.

The Centre reasoned that the convicts were trying to delay their execution to let them, at a later stage, come back to the court and request commuting the death sentence on grounds of delay in hanging.
