IIT-B’s 1998 batch pledges 57 crore for supporting research

The 1998 batch of IIT Bombay has pledged ₹57 crore towards academic projects, surpassing the donation made by the class of 1971. The funds will support crucial projects and enhance research at the institute. The class of 1973 has also pledged ₹7.15 crore towards establishing an electro-voltaic power train laboratory and supporting faculty awards for research excellence. The donations were made during the annual Alumni Day event. The funds raised will help IIT Bombay achieve its goal of ranking among the world's top 50 universities by 2030.

Alumnus donates 153 crore to IITB for climate research

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has received a ₹153 crore ($18.6 million) anonymous donation for a green energy and sustainability research hub. This is the largest individual contribution received by IITB after Nandan Nilekani's ₹315 crore ($38.5 million) donation in June. The hub will focus on evaluating climate risks, developing mitigation strategies, advancing renewable energy sources, and fostering interdisciplinary collaborations. It will also facilitate research in battery technologies, solar photovoltaics, biofuels, clean-air science, flood forecasting, and carbon capture.

Infosys chairman Nandan Nilekani donates 315 crore to IIT Bombay

Nandan Nilekani, co-founder and chairman of Infosys, has donated $38.5m to his alma mater, the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, to support infrastructure improvements, research and a deep tech startup ecosystem. IIT Bombay plans to raise $500m over the next five years and establish centres of excellence in artificial intelligence, green energy and quantum computing. Nilekani, who studied electrical engineering at IIT Bombay, has contributed $85m to the institute over the years and served on its board of governors.

Gang dupes Nanded man of 30L, kidnap him, extort 10L more

A man in Nanded was allegedly conned of ?30 lakh by seven people, including his acquaintances, on the pretext of donating to his educational society in December 2022. The victim claimed he was kidnapped and threatened to pay an additional ?20 lakh as ransom. The Sahar police have registered an offence based on the victim's complaint and investigations are ongoing.
