People with substance use disorders (SUDs), including those who excessively use tobacco, alcohol, opioid, cannabis, and cocaine, are more susceptible to COVID-19 and its complications, according to a study which assessed the electronic health records (EHR) of millions of patients in the US.

Assam records 50% jump in drug-related cases in two months: DGP

Between June 26 and August 30, the number of drug-related cases has gone up by 49.6%. Similarly, there has been a jump of 46.13% in the number of people arrested during that period, Mahanta said.

The ministry is mandated to oversee the anti-drug policies and programmes. It has prepared a national action plan for drug demand reduction for 2018-2025 to focus on preventive education, awareness generation, counselling and treatment and rehabilitation of drug addicts.
