The Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) wrote to the varsity's acting vice-chancellor PC Joshi demanding suspension of classes and cancellation of exams since many students and teachers have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

DUTA holds protest demanding regularisation of ad-hoc teachers

The Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) took to the streets on Wednesday over its demand for immediate absorption of over 4,500 ad-hoc teachers in the varsity and its colleges.
The resolution was also to state that colleges can use “surplus funds” available for the purpose of paying salaries.(HT file)

  • Earlier on Tuesday, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal held a meeting with principals of the 12 colleges and assured that the government will meet the DU officials to discuss the matter.

The HRD Ministry has agreed to some of the urgent demands of DUTA, including the amendment to the August 28 Delhi University circular and the counting of past services in all pending cases of promotions as per the 2018 Career Advancement Scheme, the association said.

The DUTA general body meeting has agreed on a series of action programmes. Some of these are day-night dharna outside the vice chancellor’s office and public meeting of families at the dharna site on December 8, the teachers’ association said.

It was decided that all ad hoc teachers who have been teaching in the current academic session in the university would be short-listed for the interview for permanent positions.

The teachers said every four months, the contracts of the ad-hoc teachers were renewed, but it had not happened owing to the August 28 letter, which had put the future of almost 4,500 ad-hoc teachers in jeopardy.

DUTA protest: DU administration holds meeting with teachers’ association

The University Administration is open to discuss any relevant issue in an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect, it said.  The teachers are occupying the VC office demanding absorption of ad-hoc teachers.
