This comes days after Emirates, the country's flagship carrier, extended its suspension of flights to Dubai from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka till July 28.

Dubai’s Emirates and Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways have partnered with the International Air Transport Association to introduce a travel pass for passengers who have been inoculated against Covid-19 or have tested negative.

Middle Eastern carrier Etihad, which owns about 24% stake in Jet, had submitted a bid for the Indian airline last month, while family-run Hinduja Group was said to be considering putting in an offer.

The airline, India’s second-largest by market share, did not name the leasing firms involved, nor clarify whether the groundings were voluntary or forced. Jet Airways has a large fleet of mainly Boeing Co 737 jets which it sources from over 20 lessors.
